A People Uncounted: The Untold Story Of the Roma

I just watched “A people Uncounted, The untold Story of the Roma”. I would say that this Documentary is really eye opening for someone who knew nothing about the Roma people and the struggles they have been going through for such a long time. Sadly the Roma, who are commonly referred to as “Gypsies” have been bullied in every country they have lived and it seems that no one has their best interest at heart; unlike the Jews who survived the holocaust, the Romani people did not get a country to call their own. To this day, the Gypsies continue to live in very poor conditions and are treated as less than humans by the governments and societies who call themselves “civilized”.

Aaron Yeger directed “A people uncounted, the untold Story of the Roma”. I like the approach he took by comparing the Roma people’s persecution to the other historic genocides that have taken place in recent history. It leaves us with some important questions asking “why?” are they still suffering, “How come no one does anything to help them” and most importantly “Why is it that the Roma people are still treated as less than human beings, everywhere they go?”

This documentary is definitely something that I would recommend people all over the world to watch. I really enjoyed watching it although the first 20 minutes were challenging because I wasn’t sure of the direction it was taking. There was a lot of information being introduced without giving the audience time to digest the situation. I understand that the story of the Roma people is a huge subject to talk about, but the use of multiple camera angles and pans were quite distracting at the start of the film.

I think you can also see it on Netflix.
